Ford wants to drive one hard bargain with Donald Trump that will backfire in the worst way

Donald Trump ran and won vowing to undo the damage Joe Biden did to the auto industry.  He could face an early fight in his Presidency that he never expected.  And Ford wants to drive [...]

    • Just wait ntil these morons find out when the batteries go bad and have to be replaced and cost as much as a new car. They will seethe light then. I think electric cars and trucks is a good thing, but the technoligy nees to improve to be adopted. The short distance trips are O.K. but long distance trips won’t work. People don’t want to sit in there car for half a day waiting for the battery to recharge 3 or 4 times just to drive across a state.

      • The consumers should be able to have the option of purchasing a gas-powered or electric vehicle. The electric vehicles are cost prohibitive for most Americans even with a meager $7500 credit. We had the cleanest fuel in the world and the upkeep on the gas-powered cars was way more affordable. China now owns the market for the components on an electric vehicle, including the batteries thanks to the Dems from years ago outsourcing American jobs to other countries. Silicon Valley in CA. was at the top of the game in the electronics market. The CA Dems got rich off of it. Then they got greedy and now anything profitable that they touch turns to crap – they had the opposite effect of the Midas Touch. Trump and team will make America the greatest electronics and automotive industry leader again. Any US company that outsources will have heavy import taxes to bring their products back into the US. It would be more cost-effective to be “Made in America” again.

      • Originally, electric vehicles were built along with the first gas powered vehicles. EVs died out because they were far less dependable than gas powered vehicles and could only be used for short distance travel. Great in the city, but worthless in trips outside the city. There is no reason to believe they are any closer to “catching on” now than in the early 20th century.

  1. Musk already said THIS IS NOT THE TIME FOR ELECTRIC CAR! If these big 3 automobile companies CEO can’t understand that. Then it time the companies REMOVED THESE DUMB LEFTIST!

    • Many companies are becoming un-WOKE. It’s too bad it came to this. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to predict the outcome of DEI managed companies. It makes me still want to “boycott” some (at least do way less business) because the CEO’s were too stupid to see that DEI would fail vs merit/experience would succeed. It cost many qualified people to be unemployed. I hope they’re totally un-WOKE and fire all of their DEI hires and replace them with qualified personnel.

  2. president-elect trump is right in what he is saying. The electric car costs are staggering and they are damaging on the economy of this Nation. You have to making great money to be able to own an electric car. The $7500 up front is a gimmick for you to buy one. Trump is right. It is just comin since to see that this would never work. Period. Let’s get back to where we were 4 years ago. Think about it? Global Warming is a LIE!!!!!

  3. Let talk about the price on these vehicles! What you are seeing is OUTRAGEOUS PRICE ON VEHICLES AND TRUCK THAT NOT EVEN WORTH THE COST! I do not care what these CEO THAT HAS THEIR OWN PRIVATE JETS THING. Like a democrat politicians all they want is MEME ONLY wealthy! Lot of people that are not making 50k a years can’t even afford these gas car and truck! Electricity car are not worth 90k to ride in a death trap!

    • Once upon a time, I might have said maybe someday I’ll own one when all of the problems have been worked out, they were affordable to the average American and they can be 100% Made in USA and not be dependent on China and other Communist countries. Now, even if I could afford one, I wouldn’t because I resent the govt telling me what I can and can’t buy. It’s the principle. Jan. 20, 2025 can’t come soon enough!

    • Amen! I won’t either. In fact, my car will officially become an antique in 1 year from now. I consider anything newer to be worthless junk. If I won a billion dollar lottery, I would not purchase a new car. I would find a muscle car from the late 1950s to early 1970s and have it fully restored from the ground up; safer and more dependable than anything being made in the 21st century.

  4. I just went to the grocery store and received another sticker shock. A condiment I like was $3.85 when Biden took office. Today that condiment cost $6.29. That is quite a rise in 4 years. Now, as to the Electric Cars. If I was President Trump I would say to the electric car manufacturers “If you want to produce Electric Cars, go ahead and do so, but all the tax payers, who can not afford your electric cars, are not going to be subsidizing the car they can not afford. We are going to put some fairness back into the confiscatory tax system”.

  5. I expect the Detroit “Big 3” automakers to fully reimburse the American people immediately on day one of President Trump’s second term.

  6. So, what’s new? The politicians and the billionaires continue to push for EVs and We the Little People continue to get reamed in the process.

Right now I own an American made vehicle that is low miles and in general in excellent shape that was built with a CHINESE MADE PART that is no longer made and no longer available. Thus I own 4 wheel JUNK. There is absolutely NO WAY I could come up with the $85 thousand to buy an EV but the politico and billionaires just couldn’t care less! Thus I’m almost 80 years old, disabled and with NO TRANSPORTATION of my own. And thanks to our GREEDY POLITICIANS AND BILLIONAIRES no way to fix that.

So why should I and countless others like me care a whit about THEM? I’m sure they get around quite well in their chauffeur driven limos!

    • I’m 72 and my hubby is 85 years young. We love our gas-powered vehicle and I do not see us ever affording an EV. I’ve heard a lot of horror stories, especially the charging stations. China has a strangle-hold on many of the electronic components. We used to be the leader in the electronic industry until the dimwits in govt. decided outsourcing was the way to go. A big mistake that is not too late to undo. We NEED Trump, Elon, Vivek and the rest the team ASAP to put our broken country back together again. MAGA!

  7. Our infrastructure can not support a majority EV population.

In the event of a SHTF scenario, all of these EV’s will be left on the road dead.

Even our most modern gasoline vehicles would be dead on the road, in the event of an EMP strike.

Yes, our modern conveniences are great, but all of the electronics would be useless in the event of an EMP strike.

In some cases, less is more.

There is NO shortage of oil as the left would have you believe.

    EV’s are NOT the answer.

We need more reliable, cost efficient vehicles, that don’t break the bank.

We need more vehicles that would run, even after an EMP strike.

In my opinion, our vehicles should be built in a way, that all of the advanced electronics could be bypassed, in the event of such a strike. Almost like a switch, where you could shut off, and bypass, all of the advanced electronics, in the event of such an emergency.

Or, just “offer” a few models the way we did before the 1970’s, without all of the advanced electronics. These vehicles would be designed to function, even in the event of an EMP attack.

And, without all of the advanced electronics, they would be much less expensive to manufacture, and much more affordable to the average consumer.

I would like to see at least one truck model, one van model, one SUV model, and one sedan model, without all of the advanced electronics.

EV’s and these advanced electronics, are going to be left along the side of the road, in a SHTF scenario.

And, on one final note, these very basic offerings should be bio-diesel capable. Refined diesel may not be available, but if they are capable of using bio-diesel fuel sources, we may have a chance.

      • Everything can go wrong with the computer systems. I am a retired computer programmer and I know that no program is smarter than the person who programmed it. At least half the people I worked with should have chosen a different field of work. I wrote custom business software for major corporations. Even in business, what the programmer doesn’t know about the business or “life in general” can become a bug that will eventually bring down the system. I hope I never even have to ride in a car with self-driving capabilities. No programmer knows enough about the laws of physics pertaining to the motion of automobiles to write a program that is NOT dangerous to the passengers.

  8. That’s ok ford, you just keep on pushing the expensive electric vehicles. I don’t have to buy any more of your vehicles as there are better alternatives everywhere.

  9. “The Government” are our representatives, and apparently need to be reminded of that fact regularly. As our representatives, it is NOT their job or responsibility to mandate the items of personal property a citizen must buy, own, maintain, and use. The option to select EOV or GAS vehicle should remain a decision based on the personal preference of the buyer, and nobody else.

  10. What was the author smoking? Ford has been talking cutting back its EV program for more than a year now. It’s electric F150 production is paused until sometime in 2025. It’s laid off 4000 employees in the EV division.

GM isn’t far behind, they too were talking abandoning their EV program. As was Chrysler. Now we’re supposed to believe that they’re going to lobby to keep a program that’s costing them TENS of BILLIONS of DOLLARS per YEAR? Seriously??

  11. Remove all government requirements and subsidies and let the market decide. The EV will go the way it did in the early 20th century.
    Dangerous, useless junk.

  12. When will the Detroit big three finally learn from their biggest competitor Toyota? Toyota in 21’told the current administration NO they were not going all in on electric vehicles, rather they would institute a plan consisting of internal combustible engines, hybrid of their most popular vehicles, some electric and maybe even some hydrogen! Whose balance sheet would you like to have today?

  13. It is grossly unfair to have American taxpayers have to pay a huge $7,500.00 subsidy just for somebody to buy a foolish electric vehicle. I actually had a customer come in to my counter fabrication business and gloat over how I had to pay for his $7,500.00 subsidy for his Chevy bolt. That did it for me. I would never buy an electric vehicle as they are totally impractical for charging time, range, price, resale, and they way too expensive and prone to fires.

  14. The auto executives need to wake up. There will be no see-sawing back and forth. The general public does NOT want their over-priced, inconvenient, undependable and dangerous EVs!
